Solid Noise implements a classic ”procedural noise” algorithm which gives the user detailed control over a range of random noise features. Possible pattern types include detailed, soft and smooth, stripes, waves, fibers, and much more.

See http://www.peterronhovde.com/snexamples.html for a range of examples, including several image tables which illustrate how the effects vary with some of the input parameters.

A Solid Noise Difference filter is also included for convenience. Both filters work on 8- and 16-bit RGB and grayscale images, and they are currently implemented for the 32-bit version of Photoshop in Windows.

The Solid Noise for Windows plug-in is currently only available for Adobe Photoshop in the 32-bit Windows application (which is or can be made accessible even on 64-bit Windows systems). I anticipate implementing Mac and 64-bit Windows versions in the future.
