Adobe Target Toolkit
Analytics Demystified

This extension leverages Adobe Target's response token functionality to expose new data elements from Target that can be tracked by Analytics and other tools.

This extension leverages Adobe Target's response token functionality to expose new data elements from Target that can be tracked by Analytics and other tools.

This extension lets you create new data elements in Launch that capture data from Adobe Target such as activity and experience IDs and names. These data elements can then be captured by tools such as Adobe Analytics (using a list variable) or any other digital marketing tag you deploy through Adobe Launch.

It also triggers a direct call when Adobe Target's response tokens are available on page load, and another anytime those tokens are updated after page load. This allows you to tie the tracking of other tags directly to Adobe Target, rather than have to be continuously ”listening” for Target to do things before initiating tracking. This can make the tracking of Adobe Target data in other tools easier for all applications, including single-page apps.

In order to properly configure this extension and pass Target test data to an Analytics list variable, the following steps are required:

1. Within Target, go to Setup > Response Tokens. Enable activity.id, activity.name, experience.id, and experience.name. You can also enable other response tokens as needed.

2. Within Launch, enable Target as you normally would, using a Library Loaded rule., with the following actions: Load Target and Fire Global Mbox.

3. In between the actions to load Target and fire the global mbox, add an additional action using the Analytics-to-Target extension. Choose event type Add Adobe Response Listener. This action will tell Launch to listen for all Target mbox requests and fire a direct call upon completion. It will also allow Launch to capture activity and experience data in a data element.

4. On the screen that loads, specify the 2 direct call names. The first will be triggered when the global mbox loads, and the second will be triggered on all subsequent mbox loads. This allows you to make a page view call to Analytics on the first call, and separate page view or custom link calls on subsequent calls. Save your changes.

5. Create data elements to capture the Target data you wish to collect. You can capture a list of IDs or names, in the format {Activity ID}:{Experience ID} or {Activity Name}:{Experience Name}.

6. Create Direct Call rules with names corresponding to the names you entered in step 4.

7. Add an action using the Target-to-Analytics extension. Choose Set Adobe Analytics List Var. Specify the data element you defined in step 5, and the list variable you want to store the data.

8. Add any additional actions needed to set any other Adobe Analytics variables you wish to set. Then add an action to fire an Adobe Analytics beacon.

9. Save and publish all your changes. You will see Target experience data passed to Adobe Analytics.
